Sade Sati Report: Your Phase, Dates and Dasha Overlap, Read From Your Own Chart

Is my Sade Sati the same as everyone else's with my Moon sign? A sign table can only say yes. A reading from your own chart first confirms your rashi against your birth time, then sets your phase dates beside the dasha you are running and weighs how strong Saturn is in your birth chart.

A Sade Sati report answers a narrower and more useful question than a sign table. The table says which Moon signs are in Sade Sati this year. A report built from your own chart says whether you are, which phase you are in and between which dates, which planetary period (dasha) is running alongside it, and how Saturn itself stands in your birth chart. In the Parashari tradition, those last two are what astrologers weigh most when they read how Saturn's seven and a half years are likely to feel.

Most of those layers you can look up yourself in a free kundli, and if it shows no Sade Sati now or soon, you may not need a report at all. If Sade Sati itself is new to you, read what Sade Sati is first; it explains the three phases from the ground up.

What a sign table tells you, and where it stops

Sade Sati is defined by one counting rule. Saturn spends roughly two and a half years in each sign. When it transits the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign itself, and the sign after it, astrologers call those the rising, peak and setting phases. Three signs of about two and a half years each make the seven and a half years of the name.

Because the rule only needs your Moon sign, anyone can publish a table for all twelve rashis, and that table is correct as far as it goes. For 2027 the one-line version is: Saturn enters Aries on 3 June, slips back into Pisces on 20 October and enters Aries again on 23 February 2028, so the Pisces, Aries, Aquarius and Taurus Moon signs all see their phase change at least once. Our Sade Sati 2027 table lays out every switch by Moon sign.

What a table cannot do is know anything about you. It cannot tell you:

  • Whether your Moon sign is the one you think. The Moon changes sign about every two and a quarter days. If you were born on a day it changed sign, your birth time decides your rashi, and a wrong rashi means a wrong Sade Sati.
  • Which dasha is running. In the Parashari tradition the dasha decides which promises of the chart are active, and transits are read as timing within it.
  • How strong Saturn is in your birth chart. Classical texts read the same transit differently for a chart where Saturn is well placed and one where it is weak or afflicted.
  • Which houses Saturn crosses from your lagna. The phases are counted from the Moon, but the areas of life a transit touches are read from the ascendant as well.

Your phase dates, including Saturn's retrograde re-entries

Saturn turns retrograde for several months every year. Near a sign boundary, that backward loop can carry it over the line and back again, so a phase can start, pause and restart. A table that gives only one entry date per sign hides this; a careful personal reading shows every crossing.

Ravi's Moon is in Pisces. Using the Saturn dates as published by PanchangBodh (Indian dates), his Sade Sati phases around 2027 run like this:

PeriodSaturn inCounted from Ravi's Pisces MoonPhase
Until 3 June 2027Pisces1st (his Moon sign)Phase 2, the peak
3 June to 20 October 2027Aries2ndPhase 3, the setting phase
20 October 2027 to 23 February 2028Pisces (retrograde, then direct on 24 December)1stBack to phase 2
From 23 February 2028Aries2ndPhase 3 again

So Ravi does not move from the peak to the setting phase once; he does it twice. Some astrologers read a re-entry like this as a second pass over unfinished ground rather than a fresh start. Other panchangs can differ by a day on these dates, and some astrologers count Sade Sati by degrees from the Moon's exact position rather than by whole signs, which shifts the start and end. A report should say which method it uses; Astroliya's calculations count by whole signs from the Moon, the common Parashari practice.

One honest point about "personal Sade Sati dates": under the whole-sign method, everyone with the same Moon sign has the same crossing dates. What becomes personal is everything around them: whether your Moon sign is confirmed, which dasha those dates fall in, and which of your houses Saturn is crossing at the time.

The dasha running alongside Sade Sati

This is the layer a table leaves out entirely, and the one many astrologers weigh most. Vimshottari dasha divides life into planetary periods (mahadashas) and sub-periods (antardashas). The transit sets the backdrop; the dasha is read as the main story of the moment.

A few patterns that are traditionally described:

  • Sade Sati during Saturn's own mahadasha or antardasha. Saturn is then both the transiting planet and the period lord, so readers weigh its themes more heavily, for better or worse depending on Saturn's natal strength. Our guide to Shani mahadasha explains that 19-year period.
  • Sade Sati during the dasha of a planet friendly to Saturn, such as Venus or Mercury (Saturn's natural friends in the classical scheme), is often described as easier to carry.
  • Sade Sati during the dasha of a planet that is strong and well placed in your chart is traditionally read as a time when that planet's results still come, with Saturn adding effort, delay or responsibility rather than overriding them.

Asha and Kiran both have Aries Moons, so both are in Sade Sati through 2027. Asha is in a Jupiter mahadasha with Jupiter strong in her chart; a reader would describe her Sade Sati as a period of heavier responsibility inside a broadly supportive period. Kiran is in a Saturn antardasha, and his natal Saturn is weak; a reader would treat Saturn's themes as more prominent for him and would look closely at the houses involved. Same rashi, same dates, two very different readings.

Saturn's own strength in your chart

Classical texts do not treat Saturn as one fixed influence. They read its sign, house and condition at birth, and astrologers traditionally look at a few things in particular:

  • Dignity. Saturn is said to be exalted in Libra, debilitated in Aries and at home in Capricorn and Aquarius. In 2027 the transiting Saturn moves into Aries, its sign of debilitation, which some readers also take into account.
  • Its role for your lagna. For Taurus and Libra ascendants, Saturn rules both a trine and an angle (the 9th and 10th houses for Taurus, the 4th and 5th for Libra) and is traditionally called a yogakaraka, a planet that tends to give good results. For other ascendants its role differs.
  • House and aspects. Which house natal Saturn occupies, and which planets aspect it or are aspected by it.
  • The Moon's own strength. Sade Sati is Saturn's passage over the Moon, so a strong, well-supported Moon is traditionally said to carry it more easily than a weak one.

None of this makes Sade Sati good or bad by itself. It changes what a careful reading emphasises.

Free checks to do before any paid report

You can answer most of the basic questions yourself, at no cost, in a few minutes:

  1. Make your free [kundli](/kundli) with your date, time and place of birth. Note your Moon sign (rashi), not your Sun sign.
  2. Open the Findings and Doshas tabs. The kundli flags Sade Sati, with dates, when it applies to your chart.
  3. Open the Dasha tab and note your current mahadasha and antardasha, and when the next one begins.
  4. Open the Planets tab and note Saturn's sign, house and strength, and the Moon's. The Transits tab shows where Saturn is this month, counted from your Moon.
  5. Check the year. If you are reading in 2027, the Sade Sati 2027 table and the Shani gochar 2027 guide show what Saturn's back-and-forth does for your sign.
  6. Ask a question. If one specific worry is on your mind, an AI astrologer in chat can read it against your chart first.

If those checks say you are not in Sade Sati and none is due soon, you may not need a report at all. That is a perfectly good outcome.

What Astroliya's Sade Sati report contains

The Sade Sati report is an 18-page reading in five chapters, available in English or Hindi:

  1. Where you are in Sade Sati, with the phase timeline. Your Moon sign, your current phase and its dates.
  2. Career and work themes. What the tradition associates with Saturn's passage for work, effort and recognition, read from your chart.
  3. Family and responsibility themes. Duties, elders, home and the commitments Saturn is traditionally said to bring forward.
  4. How it overlaps with your current dasha period. Which mahadasha and antardasha run alongside each phase, and how they are traditionally read together.
  5. Traditional remedies: free practices first, optional ones after. Practices such as mantra, discipline and service come before anything you would have to buy.

It is made in three steps. Your chart is calculated from your birth details using the sidereal zodiac (Lahiri ayanamsa). Astroliya's AI writes the text from your placements. Automated checks then compare the reading against traditional Jyotish rules. No person writes it by hand: Astroliya's astrologers are AI, and the site says so. You can read the report on the site or keep it as a PDF. To compare it with the other reports before choosing, see our guide to astrology reports or the reports page.

What the report won't tell you

A Shani Sade Sati report is a way of reading a period, not a list of events. It will not say that you will lose money, a job or a relationship: no honest reading of a transit can promise that, and we will not write it. Many astrologers describe Sade Sati as a time of responsibility, slowing down and consolidating, and plenty of people do well during it.

It will also not push a gemstone. Blue sapphire (neelam) is traditionally prescribed only after a careful look at the whole chart, and many astrologers advise against it by default. Remedies in the report are traditionally recommended practices, all optional, and never a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice. If a decision in front of you is serious, treat the report as one input and speak to a qualified professional for the rest.

Questions people ask

What is in a Sade Sati report that a free table doesn't show?

A table gives the phase for your Moon sign. A report confirms your Moon sign from your birth time, lists every phase crossing including retrograde re-entries, and reads them against your current dasha and Saturn's strength in your birth chart.

Is a Sade Sati report useful in 2027, when Saturn changes sign?

It can be, because that is when a sign table is hardest to read. Saturn's move into Aries on 3 June 2027 and its return to Pisces on 20 October change the phase for several Moon signs, and a report places those switches against your own dasha. If your free kundli shows no Sade Sati now or soon, you may not need one.

Do I need my exact birth time?

It matters most if the Moon changed sign on your birth day, because then the time decides your rashi. It also sets your lagna and your dasha dates. With only an approximate time, say so and read the house-based parts with more caution.

Does Sade Sati always bring bad results?

No. Tradition reads it through your dasha, Saturn's natal strength and the houses involved, and many people go through it steadily. A careful reading describes themes to be mindful of, not losses to expect.

Who writes the Sade Sati report?

Astroliya's AI writes it from your calculated chart, and automated checks compare it against traditional Jyotish rules. It is not written by a person; Astroliya's astrologers are AI.
