Sade Sati 2027: Which Moon Signs Start, End or Switch Phase, With Dates
Saturn changes sign in 2027, then changes its mind. A Taurus Moon begins Sade Sati on 3 June, steps out on 20 October and begins again on 23 February 2028, while Aquarius gets the mirror image.

Sade Sati 2027 is unusual because Saturn does not make one clean move. It enters Aries on 3 June 2027, turns retrograde on 9 August, walks back into Pisces on 20 October, turns direct on 24 December and finally re-enters Aries on 23 February 2028. Every Moon sign whose Sade Sati or Dhaiya depends on that boundary therefore changes status three times in under nine months.
This page covers only those signs: the ones that start, end or switch phase. If you want what Saturn in Aries is said to bring for all twelve rashis, our Shani gochar 2027 guide has the sign-by-sign reading. If Sade Sati itself is new to you, start with what Sade Sati is and come back.
Sade Sati 2027 at a glance
- 3 June 2027: Saturn enters Aries. Taurus Moon signs begin Sade Sati (phase 1). Aquarius Moon signs finish it. Aries moves from phase 1 to phase 2, and Pisces from phase 2 to phase 3.
- 9 August 2027: Saturn turns retrograde while still in Aries. Nothing changes sign on this date, but it sets up the return.
- 20 October 2027: Saturn moves back into Pisces. Taurus steps out of Sade Sati for now, Aquarius steps back into its last phase, and Aries and Pisces return to their earlier phases.
- 24 December 2027: Saturn turns direct in Pisces.
- 23 February 2028: Saturn re-enters Aries and moves on through it. The June picture returns: Taurus is in phase 1, Aquarius is out, Aries is in phase 2 and Pisces is in phase 3.
Shani Dhaiya follows the same three dates: Leo and Sagittarius hand it to Virgo and Capricorn on 3 June, take it back on 20 October, and hand it over again on 23 February 2028.
The counting rule, so you can check it yourself
Sade Sati and Dhaiya are not lists to memorise. They come from one rule in the Parashari tradition: count the sign Saturn is transiting from your Moon sign (rashi), with your Moon sign as 1.
| Saturn's sign, counted from your Moon sign | What astrologers traditionally call it |
|---|---|
| 12th (the sign before your Moon) | Sade Sati, phase 1 (rising) |
| 1st (your Moon sign itself) | Sade Sati, phase 2 (peak) |
| 2nd (the sign after your Moon) | Sade Sati, phase 3 (setting) |
| 4th | Dhaiya, called Kantak Shani (Ardhashtama Shani in South India) |
| 8th | Dhaiya, often called Ashtama Shani |
| Any other sign | Neither |
Saturn spends roughly two and a half years in each sign, so three signs in a row make about seven and a half years: the "sade sati" of the name. Dhaiya means two and a half, one sign's worth.
Illustration (a made-up reader): Meera's Moon is in Taurus. Aries is the sign just before Taurus, so it is her 12th. When Saturn enters Aries on 3 June 2027, she enters phase 1. When Saturn goes back to Pisces on 20 October, Pisces is her 11th, which is neither Sade Sati nor Dhaiya, so she is out again until 23 February 2028.
Which rashi has Sade Sati in 2027: the Moon-sign table
Four Moon signs are affected. The columns follow Saturn's position through the year.
| Moon sign (rashi) | Until 3 Jun 2027 (Saturn in Pisces) | 3 Jun to 20 Oct 2027 (Aries) | 20 Oct 2027 to 23 Feb 2028 (Pisces) | From 23 Feb 2028 (Aries) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aquarius (Kumbha) | Phase 3: Saturn 2nd | Sade Sati over: Saturn 3rd | Phase 3 again | Over |
| Pisces (Meena) | Phase 2: Saturn 1st | Phase 3: Saturn 2nd | Back to phase 2 | Phase 3 |
| Aries (Mesha) | Phase 1: Saturn 12th | Phase 2: Saturn 1st | Back to phase 1 | Phase 2 |
| Taurus (Vrishabha) | Not in Sade Sati: Saturn 11th | Phase 1 begins: Saturn 12th | Out again: Saturn 11th | Phase 1 |
So the honest answer to "which rashi has Sade Sati in 2027" is: Pisces and Aries all year, Aquarius for most of the year except June to October, and Taurus only from June to October, with Taurus's longer run beginning in February 2028.
For Taurus readers. Sade Sati 2027 for Taurus is a preview, not the start of seven and a half years in one go. The first stretch lasts about four and a half months; the steady run begins on 23 February 2028. Your Taurus horoscope gives the day-to-day reading alongside it.
For Aquarius readers. The June exit is real but temporary. Many astrologers describe the last phase as the lightest, and in 2027 it simply has an encore from 20 October to 23 February 2028. Your Aquarius horoscope covers the rest of your year.
Why Taurus and Aquarius get it twice: Saturn's retrograde
Saturn appears to move backwards for about four and a half months every year. Nothing happens to the planet; Earth, on its faster orbit, overtakes it, and from our angle Saturn seems to reverse against the stars before moving forward again.
In 2027 that retrograde begins on 9 August, only about two months after Saturn has crossed into Aries. It has not travelled far from the Pisces-Aries boundary, so the backward loop carries it over the line on 20 October. It turns direct on 24 December while still in Pisces, and crosses into Aries again on 23 February 2028.
Astrologers traditionally read a retrograde re-entry like this as a second pass over unfinished ground rather than a fresh start. For Taurus, the June to October window is often described as a first look at Saturn's themes; for Aquarius, the October to February return is described as a last round of loose ends before the period closes.
Shani Dhaiya 2027: Leo and Sagittarius hand over to Virgo and Capricorn
Dhaiya follows the same switches. While Saturn is in Pisces, it is 8th from Leo and 4th from Sagittarius. In Aries, it is 8th from Virgo and 4th from Capricorn.
| Moon sign (rashi) | Until 3 Jun 2027 | 3 Jun to 20 Oct 2027 | 20 Oct 2027 to 23 Feb 2028 | From 23 Feb 2028 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leo (Simha) | Dhaiya: Saturn 8th | Ends: Saturn 9th | Returns | Ends |
| Sagittarius (Dhanu) | Dhaiya: Saturn 4th | Ends: Saturn 5th | Returns | Ends |
| Virgo (Kanya) | None: Saturn 7th | Begins: Saturn 8th | Paused | Dhaiya |
| Capricorn (Makara) | None: Saturn 3rd | Begins: Saturn 4th | Paused | Dhaiya |
Four Moon signs see no change at all: Gemini, Cancer, Libra and Scorpio are in neither Sade Sati nor Dhaiya before or after 3 June. Saturn's transit still moves through a house for them, and the Shani gochar 2027 guide reads that house.
Use your Moon sign, not your Sun sign
Everything above counts from the Moon's sidereal sign at birth. That is often not the "star sign" from a magazine, which is the Sun's tropical sign; the two differ for many people. If you are not sure of your rashi, a free kundli shows your Moon sign from your date, time and place of birth.
Your Moon sign is also what Astroliya's free kundli counts from. Its Findings list Sade Sati with dates when it applies to your own chart, rather than a sign-wide table, and its Transits section counts this month's Saturn from your Moon, so you can see a 4th or 8th placement (Dhaiya) for yourself.
Why your own dates can differ
The table is correct for the sign rule, but three things can move your personal picture.
- Your Moon near a sign edge. The Moon changes sign about every two and a quarter days. If you were born close to a change, an error of an hour or two in the birth time can put your Moon in the neighbouring sign, and every row above shifts by one.
- Unknown birth time. Without it, a kundli assumes a time, and on a sign-change day it can pick the wrong rashi. Our guide to a kundli without birth time explains what can still be read.
- A different counting method. Some astrologers do not count whole signs. They start Sade Sati when Saturn comes within a set distance of the natal Moon's degree and end it when Saturn is the same distance past it, which can shift the start and end by months. Others treat a short retrograde re-entry as a continuation rather than a new period. Neither is wrong within its school; it is worth knowing which one a reading uses.
What Sade Sati and Dhaiya do not mean
Fear travels faster than the tradition does. Astrologers traditionally describe Saturn's periods as times of pressure, slowing down and taking responsibility, and many astrologers point out that people often look back on them as the years they built something lasting. Being in Sade Sati or Dhaiya does not, by itself, mean:
- that illness, a job loss or a break-up is coming;
- that a wedding, a house purchase or a new job must be postponed;
- that the whole period is uniform. Your own dasha, the strength of Saturn in your chart and the house it rules matter as much as the transit, which is why a Shani mahadasha or another dasha can colour the same years very differently.
If a reading tells you otherwise without showing its reasoning from your chart, ask how it got there.
What people traditionally do during Sade Sati
These are customs, offered as optional practices, not fixes. None of them replaces medical, legal or financial advice.
- Light a sesame-oil lamp on Saturday evenings, often at a Shani or Hanuman temple, and recite the Hanuman Chalisa.
- Chant a Shani mantra such as "Om Sham Shanaishcharaya Namah" with steady attention, often 108 times on a mala.
- Give on Saturdays: black sesame, urad dal, mustard oil or warm clothing, especially to elders and workers. Saturn is traditionally linked with service and fair dealing.
- Some people wear a 7 mukhi rudraksha, the bead most often linked with Saturn; our 7 mukhi rudraksha guide explains the tradition and how to check a bead.
The quieter advice astrologers give is often the most useful: keep commitments, pay dues on time, look after your health, and do slow, honest work. That is the language astrologers traditionally associate with Saturn.
How these dates were worked out
The Saturn dates (3 June, 9 August, 20 October and 24 December 2027, and 23 February 2028) are as published in PanchangBodh's 2027 planetary transit calendar, computed with the Lahiri ayanamsa in Indian time. We applied the whole-sign rule above to those dates to get each Moon sign's phase. We have not stated times of day, because they vary with the source and your location; check a local panchang if you need the hour.
If you would like to talk your own phase through, Astroliya's AI astrologer can read it from your chart and explain the reasoning step by step.
Questions people ask
Which rashi has Sade Sati in 2027?
Pisces and Aries Moon signs are in Sade Sati for the whole of 2027. Aquarius is in its last phase except between 3 June and 20 October, and Taurus is in its first phase only between those two dates, before its longer run starts on 23 February 2028.
Does Sade Sati start for Taurus in 2027?
Yes, on 3 June 2027, when Saturn enters Aries, the sign before Taurus. It pauses on 20 October when Saturn moves back to Pisces, and resumes on 23 February 2028. Check that your Moon, not your Sun, is in Taurus first.
Which signs have Shani Dhaiya in 2027?
Leo and Sagittarius have it until 3 June and again from 20 October. Virgo and Capricorn have it from 3 June to 20 October, and steadily from 23 February 2028.
Should I postpone a wedding or a big purchase because of Sade Sati?
Most astrologers would not advise that on the basis of Sade Sati alone. Astrologers usually look at the dasha, Saturn's strength in the chart and, for a wedding, the muhurat. Base the practical decision on practical things.
Why do different websites give different Sade Sati dates for my sign?
Mostly because of the counting method (whole sign or distance from the Moon's degree), whether a retrograde re-entry is treated as a new period, and small differences in ayanamsa. A reading from your own chart, with the method stated, settles it.
