Love Marriage Yoga in Kundli: The House Links Astrologers Look For

Ask an astrologer whether your chart shows a love marriage and they will not look for one named yoga. They check whether the 5th house of romance is linked to the 7th house of marriage, and how Venus, Mars and Rahu touch that link; even a strong link is read as a leaning, not a forecast.

People ask about a love marriage yoga in kundli for many reasons. Some are already in a relationship and want to know what their chart says about it; some are curious whether their chart "leans" towards choosing a partner themselves; some are trying to settle an argument at home. In the Parashari tradition there is no single yoga with that name in the classical texts. What astrologers mean by it is a group of links between the 5th house and the 7th house, read alongside Venus, Mars and Rahu.

Every combination below can be checked against your own chart on Astroliya's free kundli. Whatever you find there is read as a tendency in temperament and circumstance. It does not decide whom you marry, how you meet, or whether a marriage works.

What love marriage yoga in kundli means

Every kundli has twelve houses, counted from the lagna (the ascendant). Two of them carry this question:

  • The 5th house is traditionally the house of romance, affection, creativity and the choices of the heart. It is also the house of children and learning, so it is never read for love alone.
  • The 7th house is the house of marriage and committed partnership, the person you stand beside in public.

A love marriage, in this reading, is the 5th house "meeting" the 7th: the feeling becomes the commitment. When the two houses, or their lords (the planets that rule the signs on them), are connected in the chart, many astrologers say the person is more inclined to choose a partner through attraction and acquaintance than through an arrangement made by others.

Two significators add colour. Venus (Shukra) stands for love, attraction and partnership in every chart. Mars (Mangal) stands for desire, initiative and the courage to act on it. And Rahu is traditionally read as the pull towards the unconventional: a choice that crosses a line the family expected, of community, region, religion or custom.

The 5th and 7th house connection: how two houses "link"

Astrologers in the Parashari tradition count a link (sambandha) between two planets in a few specific ways. The same rules apply to the 5th lord and the 7th lord:

  1. Conjunction: both lords sit in the same house.
  2. Exchange (parivartana): each lord sits in the other's sign. This is usually read as the strongest link.
  3. Mutual aspect: each lord aspects the other. Every planet aspects the 7th house from itself; Mars also aspects the 4th and 8th, Jupiter the 5th and 9th, and Saturn the 3rd and 10th.
  4. One lord in the other's house: the 5th lord placed in the 7th house, or the 7th lord in the 5th.
  5. One-way aspect: one lord aspects the other, or aspects the other's house. Most astrologers count this as a weaker link.

Which planets you are looking for depends entirely on your lagna. This table gives the 5th and 7th lords for each ascendant.

Lagna (ascendant)5th house sign5th lord7th house sign7th lord

Aquarius (Kumbha)GeminiMercuryLeoSun

One honest observation from the table. For an Aries lagna the two lords are the Sun and Venus, and for an Aquarius lagna they are Mercury and the Sun. Venus never strays far from the Sun in the sky, and Mercury stays even closer, so these pairs share a house in a large share of all charts. A careful astrologer reads that conjunction lightly on its own and looks for other links before saying anything.

Combinations astrologers commonly cite

Different schools and different astrologers weigh these differently, and no reputable reader relies on one alone. These are the ones you will meet most often:

  • 5th lord and 7th lord linked in any of the ways above. This is the core of what is called a love marriage yoga.
  • Venus in the 5th or 7th house, or Venus linked with the 5th or 7th lord. Read as warmth and attraction flowing into partnership.
  • Venus and Mars together, or in mutual aspect. Traditionally read as strong attraction and the readiness to act on it; some astrologers also look at this pair for passion and impatience, not only romance.
  • Rahu in the 5th or 7th house, or with Venus or the 7th lord. Read as a pull towards an unusual or unexpected partner, someone from outside the expected circle.
  • The lagna lord linked to the 5th or 7th lord. Read as the person taking the decision personally rather than leaving it to others.
  • The 11th house involved. The 11th is the house of wishes fulfilled; a link between it and the 5th or 7th lord is often cited as the wish being carried through.
  • The Moon and Venus connected, read as emotional attachment that seeks a lasting form.

Many astrologers also check the navamsa (D9), the divisional chart traditionally read for marriage, to see whether the same links repeat there. A link that shows up in both charts is usually given more weight.

Check your own chart, step by step

You do not need anyone to "detect" a yoga for you. With the table above you can find the links yourself.

  1. Make your kundli. Open /kundli and enter your date, time and place of birth. The chart is drawn the Vedic (sidereal) way, in North Indian style, with each planet's sign, degree and nakshatra listed.
  2. Find your lagna. In a North Indian chart the top-centre diamond is always the 1st house. The number written in it is the sign number of your lagna (1 is Aries, 2 is Taurus, and so on to 12 for Pisces).
  3. Find the 5th and 7th houses. Houses run anticlockwise from the top. The 7th house is the diamond directly below the lagna, at the bottom centre. Count four houses on from the lagna, anticlockwise, for the 5th.
  4. Name the two lords. Use the table above for your lagna, or read the sign numbers in those two houses and note the planets that rule them.
  5. Look for the links. Are the two lords in the same house? In each other's signs? Is one sitting in the other's house? Then check where Venus, Mars and Rahu sit, and whether any of them are in the 5th or 7th house.
  6. Write down what you find, not what it "means". A list like "5th lord in the 7th, Venus with Mars, no Rahu involvement" is the honest starting point. Interpretation comes from the whole chart.

Your birth time matters here. The lagna changes roughly every two hours, and with it every house lord in this method. If the time on your records is a guess, read the result loosely.

A worked example (illustration only)

This is a made-up chart to show the reasoning, not anyone's real kundli.

Take a Gemini lagna. From the table, the 5th lord is Venus and the 7th lord is Jupiter. Suppose Venus sits in Sagittarius, which is the 7th house, and Mars sits in Libra, the 5th house. Jupiter sits in Aquarius, the 9th house.

  • Venus, the 5th lord, sits in the 7th house. That is one of the listed links: the house of romance placing its ruler in the house of marriage.
  • Mars is in Venus's sign (Libra), in the 5th house. Many astrologers would read a strong attraction theme here.
  • Jupiter, the 7th lord, aspects the 5th house. From the 9th house, Jupiter's 9th aspect falls on the 5th. So the marriage lord looks at the romance house.

A tradition-minded astrologer would say this chart shows several of the cited links, and might describe the person as inclined to choose for themselves. What the reading does not say: when marriage happens, who the partner is, whether the family agrees, or whether the marriage will be happy. Timing is a separate method, explained in how astrology reads marriage timing.

Love marriage and kundli matching

A common question from couples who have already chosen each other: does Guna Milan still apply? In practice, many families still ask for it, and most matching practice applies the same method to a love marriage. The difference is in how the result is used.

For an arranged match, a low score often ends the conversation before it starts. For two people who already know each other well, most thoughtful astrologers treat the score as information about where the couple may need patience, not as permission or a ban. Our Guna Milan explainer walks through the 36 points and eight kootas; you can run both charts through /matching to see the score yourself.

Two results cause the most worry in love marriages:

  • Nadi dosha (0 out of 8 in the Nadi koota) is read by tradition as a caution about health and progeny. Classical texts also list cancellations, for example when the couple's Moon signs or nakshatras meet certain conditions. See Nadi dosha and its cancellations.
  • Bhakoot dosha comes from the 2/12, 5/9 and 6/8 Moon-sign pairs, and it too has traditional exceptions, often when the two Moon-sign lords are friends or the same planet.

The Manglik check is separate from the Guna score, and it is worth running on both charts before anyone reaches for a conclusion. Manglik dosha explains what it is and what it does not mean. If you want the full reading written out for a couple, the Marriage compatibility report covers it from both sets of birth details.

When families disagree: what a chart can and cannot settle

Sometimes a kundli is brought into a disagreement at home, with one side hoping it will prove the other wrong. It helps to be clear about what a chart can actually contribute.

A chart canA chart cannot
Show which classical combinations are present, and how they are traditionally readDecide whether two adults should marry
Point to periods traditionally linked with partnershipTell you whether a particular person is right for you
Offer a shared, calm language for talking about worriesReplace honest conversation about values, money, family and plans
Suggest traditional remedies some families find comfortingOverride the law, consent or anyone's safety

If a reading is being used to frighten either of you, it has moved away from what the tradition itself claims. Remedies such as prayers, fasts or charity are traditionally recommended, entirely optional, and never a substitute for counselling, medical, legal or financial advice when those are what the situation needs.

For a lighter, name-only comparison, the love calculator uses numerology rather than the kundli; treat it as play, not as a reading.

Questions people ask

Can astrology tell for certain if I will have a love marriage?

No. Astrologers read combinations as inclinations, and the same links appear in the charts of people who marry by arrangement. A chart can describe a leaning; your choices and circumstances decide the rest.

Is there a second marriage yoga in kundli?

Astrologers do discuss a second marriage yoga in kundli, but schools disagree about which houses to read, and most look at the 7th lord's condition, Venus and several other houses together. No single placement "makes" a second marriage, and a careful astrologer will not predict a separation from a chart. If a reading frightens you about your marriage, ask for the reasoning, and treat any prediction of divorce with real caution.

My chart has none of these links. Does that mean my love marriage will fail?

No. The absence of a love marriage yoga says nothing about whether a relationship succeeds. Classical astrology reads a marriage's quality from the whole chart, the 7th house, Venus and both partners' charts, not from the presence of one combination.

Does a love marriage still need kundli matching?

Most matching practice applies it the same way, and many families still ask. For a couple who have already chosen each other, most astrologers use the score as a guide to where patience may be needed, and check Nadi, Bhakoot and Manglik cancellations before reading anything as a problem.

Can I ask an AI astrologer to read these links in my chart?

Yes. Astroliya's AI astrologer reads the same calculated chart you see on /kundli, in Hindi or English, and you can ask it to point out the 5th and 7th lords, Venus, Mars and Rahu in your chart and explain its reasoning. It is an AI, clearly labelled, and its reading is guidance, not a forecast.
