Guru Gochar 2027: Jupiter's Moves Through Cancer, Leo and Virgo, Sign by Sign
Jupiter enters Virgo on 26 November 2027, but only after a retrograde detour that takes it back into Cancer from 25 January and returns it to Leo on 26 June. Each of those windows falls in a different house depending on your Moon sign, or your lagna if you know your birth time.

Guru gochar 2027 is not one move but three. Jupiter (Guru, or Brihaspati) begins the year in Leo, slips back into Cancer in January while retrograde, returns to Leo in June and steps into Virgo in late November. Saturn, by contrast, enters Aries in June and then drifts back to Pisces before the year closes, so Jupiter is the planet that actually ends 2027 somewhere new.
In the Parashari tradition Jupiter's transit is read as a backdrop of support or effort, not as an event that arrives on a fixed day. Every Moon sign gets a supportive window at some point in this stretch, just not at the same time, and the dasha you are running decides how much of it shows, so read the dates as a calendar of themes rather than a forecast.
Jupiter transit 2027 dates at a glance
The 2027 dates below are as published by PanchangBodh (Lahiri ayanamsa, Indian time). Other panchangs can differ by a day depending on the ayanamsa and the exact moment they use, so treat a date as the day the shift happens, not a switch you need to catch to the hour.
| Window | Jupiter in | Motion | What changes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Late October 2026 to 25 January 2027 | Leo (Simha) | Turns retrograde in this stretch | Jupiter's 2026 transit into Leo, widely published as 31 October 2026 |
| 25 January to 26 June 2027 | Cancer (Karka) | Retrograde until mid-April, direct after | Jupiter revisits the sign it just left |
| 26 June to 26 November 2027 | Leo (Simha) | Direct | Jupiter re-enters Leo and moves on through it |
| From 26 November 2027 | Virgo (Kanya) | Direct | The new sign Jupiter carries into 2028 |
Why Jupiter goes back to Cancer in January
Every outer planet appears to move backwards for part of each year. Earth, on its faster inner orbit, overtakes Jupiter, and from our point of view Jupiter seems to reverse against the background stars for roughly four months before turning forward again. Nothing about the planet changes; the angle we see it from does.
Jupiter enters Leo close to the Cancer-Leo boundary in late October 2026. When its retrograde loop begins, it has not travelled far into Leo, so the backward motion carries it across the line into Cancer on 25 January 2027. It turns direct around mid-April while still in Cancer, picks up speed, and crosses back into Leo on 26 June.
Astrologers traditionally treat a retrograde return like this as a second pass over the same ground: themes that opened when Jupiter left Cancer can come up again for review before Jupiter settles into Leo for the rest of the year. It is a reading habit of the tradition, not a reason to postpone anything.
The houses tradition counts as supportive for Jupiter
Classical texts on gochara (transits) count the sign Jupiter occupies from your Moon sign, and in many modern readings from your lagna (ascendant). Jupiter's transit is traditionally considered supportive in five of those counts:
- 2nd: family, savings and speech.
- 5th: learning, creativity and children.
- 7th: partnerships, marriage and agreements.
- 9th: fortune, teachers, faith and long journeys.
- 11th: gains, friendships and long-held wishes.
The other seven houses are not "bad Jupiter". Tradition reads them as quieter, or as asking for more effort: the 1st can bring a more serious, inward year; the 3rd, 6th and 10th ask you to work for results; the 4th, 8th and 12th turn attention to home, shared resources or expenses. Classical texts also describe vedha, an obstruction rule where another planet's position can cancel a supportive transit, which is one more reason a single table never settles the question.
Two more traditional notes for 2027. Cancer is the sign of Jupiter's exaltation, so the January to June window is often read as Jupiter at its strongest. And from 5 December 2026 Ketu also moves through Cancer, so Jupiter shares that sign with Ketu while it is there, a pairing astrologers traditionally read as turning Jupiter's themes towards study, reflection and spiritual practice. The Rahu-Ketu transit guide covers the nodes separately.
Guru gochar 2027 by Moon sign
This Brihaspati gochar 2027 table is counted whole-sign from each Moon sign. Bold marks the houses tradition counts as supportive. Leo appears once because both Leo windows (to 25 January and 26 June to 26 November) fall in the same house.
| Moon sign (rashi) | Cancer: 25 Jan to 26 Jun | Leo: to 25 Jan and 26 Jun to 26 Nov | Virgo: from 26 Nov |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aries (Mesha) | 4th | 5th | 6th |
| Taurus (Vrishabha) | 3rd | 4th | 5th |
| Gemini (Mithuna) | 2nd | 3rd | 4th |
| Cancer (Karka) | 1st | 2nd | 3rd |
| Leo (Simha) | 12th | 1st | 2nd |
| Virgo (Kanya) | 11th | 12th | 1st |
| Libra (Tula) | 10th | 11th | 12th |
| Scorpio (Vrishchika) | 9th | 10th | 11th |
| Sagittarius (Dhanu) | 8th | 9th | 10th |
| Capricorn (Makara) | 7th | 8th | 9th |
| Aquarius (Kumbha) | 6th | 7th | 8th |
| Pisces (Meena) | 5th | 6th | 7th |
A few patterns stand out. Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces Moon signs have Jupiter in a supportive house during the Cancer window and again once it reaches Virgo, with Leo in between. Aries, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius get their supportive stretch from Leo, which covers about half the year. Taurus and Leo Moon signs wait until Jupiter reaches Virgo in late November. Gemini and Virgo Moon signs get theirs in the first half, during the Cancer window. Cancer Moon signs see Jupiter leave their own sign for their 2nd in June.
None of this is the whole year. Saturn's move matters at least as much, and the Shani gochar 2027 guide sets out its dates sign by sign; the horoscope 2027 overview puts all the big transits side by side. For a short, daily reading of your Moon sign, see the horoscope pages.
Lagna or Moon sign: how Astroliya reads Jupiter
A Moon-sign table is the only table that can be printed for everyone, because it needs nothing but your rashi. Many astrologers, though, read transits from the lagna when the birth time is known, since the lagna fixes the houses of your chart. Astroliya's kundli does the same: when you enter a birth time, it counts Jupiter's sign from your lagna; when you do not, it falls back to your Moon sign. It then picks the supportive window (2nd, 5th, 7th, 9th or 11th) that is current or comes next within the coming 12 months, and shows that window's dates and the rule it used.
That means the app can disagree with the table above, and both can be right on their own terms.
Neither reading overrides the dasha (the planetary period running in your chart). Astrologers traditionally say a transit can only deliver what the dasha allows, which is why two people with the same Moon sign can have very different years. To see your own lagna, Moon sign and the Jupiter window the engine picks, make your free kundli.
Jupiter's 2027 and big decisions, without overpromising
People often look up Jupiter's transit before a wedding, an admission or a job change. Here is how the tradition uses it, and where it stops.
- Start with the dasha. Find which planetary period you are in. A supportive Jupiter transit is read as stronger when the dasha lord is linked to the same theme.
- Count Jupiter from your lagna and Moon. If both counts land on a supportive house, astrologers traditionally treat the window as clearer; if only one does, the reading is mixed.
- Check Saturn alongside. For marriage, many astrologers look for Jupiter and Saturn both touching the 7th house or its lord, the "double transit" idea explained in when will I get married.
- Then decide on practical grounds. Use the transit as one input, not the deciding one. Finances, readiness, family and the people involved matter more than any window on a calendar.
What this does not mean: a supportive house does not promise a marriage, a result or a promotion, and a quieter house does not block one. Jupiter in the 12th or the 8th is not a dosha and needs no fear-driven remedy. Prayers to Guru on Thursdays, reciting a Brihaspati mantra or giving to teachers and students are traditionally recommended practices for anyone who finds them meaningful; they are optional and never a substitute for medical, legal or financial advice.
If you want a month-by-month view, the Yearly Forecast 2027 report reads transit and dasha themes for 2027 from your own chart rather than from your Moon sign alone. More transit and dosha explainers are collected under Doshas and transits.
How the dates were computed
The 2027 sign changes are taken from PanchangBodh's 2027 transit calendar, which uses the Lahiri ayanamsa and Indian time. The house counts are simple whole-sign arithmetic: Jupiter's sign counted from each Moon sign, the Moon sign itself being the 1st. The Leo entry in late October 2026 is widely published as 31 October; we have not verified a time for it. Astroliya's kundli uses the Lahiri ayanamsa and whole-sign houses too, so its counts follow the same method when it reads from your Moon sign.
Questions people ask
When does Jupiter change sign in 2027?
Three times. It moves back into Cancer on 25 January 2027 while retrograde, re-enters Leo on 26 June and enters Virgo on 26 November, as published by PanchangBodh (Lahiri ayanamsa, Indian time).
Is Jupiter retrograde in 2027?
Yes, at the start of the year. Jupiter is retrograde when it slips back into Cancer on 25 January and turns direct around mid-April 2027, still in Cancer. Retrograde is an apparent backward motion seen from Earth, and the tradition reads it as a time to revisit rather than a warning.
Which Moon signs are traditionally favoured by Jupiter in 2027?
Every sign gets a supportive window at some point, just at different times. Aries, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius have it during the Leo months; Gemini and Virgo during the Cancer window; Taurus and Leo from 26 November; Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces twice, in Cancer and again in Virgo; Cancer during the Leo months, before 25 January and from 26 June. Your lagna and dasha can change this picture.
Why does my kundli show a different Jupiter house from this table?
When you give a birth time, Astroliya's kundli counts Jupiter from your lagna rather than your Moon sign, and the two usually differ. Both are traditional methods; the lagna count is the more personal one because it depends on your exact time of birth.
Is a bad Jupiter transit a dosha?
No. Tradition reads Jupiter in a less supportive house as a year that asks for more effort, not as a dosha or a curse. There is nothing to fix, and no remedy is required.
